Airfix
ActiveOverview
Airfix is a UK-based manufacturer of scale plastic model kits, specializing in aircraft, ships, vehicles, and figures. Established as the oldest UK producer of such kits for the mass market since 1952, it holds a prominent position in the scale modelling hobby industry. The brand is notable for its long heritage in injection-moulded plastic kits and affiliation with Hornby.
History
Airfix was founded in 1939 in London by Hungarian refugee Nicholas Kove, initially producing inflatable rubber toys. It pivoted to scale plastic model kits in 1952, becoming the oldest UK manufacturer in this category. Acquired by Humbrol in 1986, it faced financial issues leading to Humbrol's collapse in 2006, after which Hornby took ownership in 2007.
