History

Bernardaud was founded in 1863 in Limoges by Léonard Bernardaud, who expanded production and markets, particularly in the United States. His sons Jacques and Michel navigated the Great Depression and World War II by diversifying collections and introducing France's first tunnel kiln in 1949. Pierre Bernardaud reorganized the company in 1979, opening a new plant in Oradour-sur-Glane, acquiring facilities like the Ancienne Manufacture Royale in 1986, and modernizing with techniques such as the isostatic press. Today, it remains family-owned and led by Michel Bernardaud, the fifth generation.¹²⁴
