Bontoni
ActiveOverview
Bontoni is an Italian shoemaker producing handmade men's dress shoes. It specializes in hand-colored leathers, original designs, and artisanal construction, with production limited to 3,800 pairs annually. The brand's ready-to-wear shoes are sold through select high-end retailers such as Bergdorf Goodman, Harrods, and Harry Rosen, while its bespoke service involves multiple fittings over seven to ten months.
History
Bontoni was founded in 2004 by Franco Gazzani, a third-generation shoemaker, and his cousin Lewis Cutillo, building on the unlabeled custom shoemaking tradition of Gazzani's grandfather, uncle, and father. The family resisted industrialization from the 1970s, maintaining handmade methods for a select clientele. In 2004, they launched the Bontoni brand with its first ready-to-wear collection, sold initially at Louis Boston.

Manufacturing
All shoes are handmade in a nine-person workshop, known as Casa e Bottega, located in the basement of founder Franco Gazzani's home on the outskirts of Montegranaro in Italy's Marche region. Each pair requires about 14 weeks and 26 working hours to complete. The workshop is one of the last remaining family-owned artisanal operations in Italy.
