Overview

Officine Universelle Buly 1803 is a French luxury beauty brand specializing in perfumes, scented candles, soaps, plant oils, and skincare products for body, face, and hair. The brand operates as a heritage luxury house within the LVMH portfolio, positioning itself in the premium beauty market with an emphasis on historical formulations and artisanal craftsmanship. It maintains a global retail presence with stores in major cities including Paris, Hong Kong, New York, London, Tokyo, and Seoul.

History

The brand was originally founded in 1803 by Jean-Vincent Bully, a perfumer and cosmetician on rue Saint-Honoré in Paris, whose vinegar-based fragrance formulas were granted patents in 1809 and 1814. The original business gained recognition through exhibitions at the 1823, 1827, 1849 World's Fairs and the 1851 Great Exhibition in London, winning medals at the 1867 and 1878 Expositions Universelles. The brand was revived in 2014 by Ramdane Touhami and Victoire de Taillac-Touhami as Officine Universelle Buly, with the first modern shop opening at 6 rue Bonaparte in Paris. The company subsequently expanded globally and was acquired by LVMH, with Nathalie Elbaz serving as CEO.
