History

CapitalG was founded in 2013 by David Lawee, formerly Google's VP of Corporate Development, initially operating as Google Capital. It was officially unveiled in February 2014 and renamed CapitalG in November 2016 following Alphabet's restructuring. The fund is based in San Francisco's Ferry Building and is currently led by managing partner Laela Sturdy.
