History

Channel 4 was launched on 2 November 1982 as the UK's fourth national television service under the Broadcasting Act 1980, initially regulated by the Independent Broadcasting Authority. The Channel Four Television Corporation was established in 1990 and took full operation in 1993, becoming commercially self-funded. It expanded nationwide in 2010 with digital transmission in Wales and rebranded its streaming service from All 4 to Channel 4 in 2023.
