Founded in 1886 by Joseph Cheaney in Desborough as J. Cheaney, Boot & Shoemakers, the company moved to its current factory site in 1896 and renamed to J. Cheaney & Sons in 1903 when sons joined. Sold to Church’s English Shoes in 1964, it underwent a management buyout in 2009 by cousins Jonathan and William Church, who continue operations independently.
