Deutscher Badminton Verband

Overview

The Deutscher Badminton-Verband (DBV) is the national governing body for badminton in Germany, overseeing competitions, rankings, and development programs. It organizes national championships, maintains official ranglisten via platforms like dbv.turnier.de, and coordinates 16 regional associations. The DBV is recognized for its role in promoting the sport domestically and its affiliation with international bodies like the BWF and Badminton Europe.

History

Founded on January 18, 1953, in Wiesbaden by representatives of 14 badminton clubs during the first German championships. Hans Riegel, founder of Haribo, was elected as the first president. It joined the International Badminton Federation in 1953, became part of the Deutscher Sportbund in 1954, and was a founding member of the European Badminton Union in 1967. A structural reform in 2022 introduced a seven-member presidium led by Ralf Michaelis.
