History

Four Barrel Coffee was founded in 2008 by one of the co-founders of Ritual Coffee Roasters, opening its first location in San Francisco's Mission District. The company faced significant organizational challenges in 2018 when eight former employees filed a lawsuit alleging workplace misconduct and a toxic culture; founder Jeremy Tooker subsequently left the company and divested his shares. Following the settlement, remaining co-owners Tal Mor and Jodi Geren committed to rebuilding the company with improved employee practices and profit-sharing initiatives. In 2021, Geren and Mor launched Loquat, a sister business combining a daytime bakery with an evening wine bar in Hayes Valley.
