History

Elmhurst was founded in Queens, New York, in 1925 by Henry Schwartz’s father and uncle in their father’s milk house in the Elmhurst neighborhood. The Schwartz brothers moved to Jamaica in the 1930s, linking with a brother-in-law's farm and establishing a manufacturing plant that operated until 2016. In 2017, Elmhurst Dairy rebranded to Elmhurst 1925, shifted to plant-based milks, and relocated manufacturing to a new facility in Elma, New York, launching its first nutmilks at Natural Products Expo West.¹
