ActiveOverview
KTM is Europe's leading manufacturer of high-performance street and off-road motorcycles, headquartered in Mattighofen, Austria. The company operates as the largest European motorcycle manufacturer with a market share of 11.8% in Europe and 9.4% in the USA, generating revenue exceeding €2.5 billion. KTM is recognized for its expertise in both off-road and street sport motorcycles, with a heritage spanning over 70 years of racing achievement including 537 world championship titles.
History
KTM traces its foundation to 1934 when Hans Trunkenpolz opened a fitter's shop in Mattighofen that maintained motorcycles and cars. The company was formally registered as 'Kronreif & Trunkenpolz Mattighofen' in 1934 and later adopted the KTM name in 1953. Beginning as a pure off-road motorcycle manufacturer, KTM evolved into an innovative producer of both street motorcycles and premium sports cars. In November 2025, Bajaj Auto completed acquisition of a controlling stake in KTM for €800 million, increasing its indirect holding to approximately 75%.
