History

Flickr was launched on February 10, 2004, by Ludicorp, a Vancouver-based company founded by Stewart Butterfield and Caterina Fake, emerging from tools for their game 'Game Neverending.' Yahoo acquired it in 2005, during which it grew to host billions of images. In 2018, SmugMug purchased Flickr from Verizon-owned Yahoo, and in 2020, Awesome was established as the parent company.

Reputation

Flickr is regarded by photographers as a reliable archive for large photo collections with robust tagging and search features. Professionals value its Creative Commons integration and community tools, though some criticize recent interface changes and storage limits on free accounts.
