Pietro Loro Piana founded Ing. Loro Piana & C. in Quarona, Piedmont, Italy, in 1924, building on family wool trading from the early 1800s. Franco Loro Piana took over in the 1940s, exporting premium wool and cashmere to Europe, Americas, and Japan post-WWII. In the 1970s, Sergio and Pier Luigi Loro Piana emphasized high-end textiles like cashmere and developed Tasmanian fabric; the 1980s saw diversification into ready-to-wear and luxury goods.
