History

Naiant Studio was founded in 2006 by an individual responding to a DIY microphone thread, starting with the MSH-1 prototype in April and first commercial sale in May. Key microphone developments followed: X-S, X-Q, X-M in 2008; X-O in 2011; X-R in 2012; X-8S in 2015; and X-R4/Y4 in 2019. Manufacturing shifted from North Carolina to Virginia in July 2018. The company announced 2026 as its final year.

Manufacturing

All products were designed and hand-assembled in Virginia from July 2018, previously in North Carolina. Components sourced from US (PCBs, metalwork, connectors) and abroad (capsules from Japan, passives from Japan/China, actives from Philippines/Malaysia/China).
