Meural

Overview

Meural produces digital art canvases under NETGEAR, specializing in smart displays for showcasing licensed and user-provided artwork and photography. The Meural Canvas uses proprietary hardware, software, and firmware to mimic lifelike textures on LCD panels with features like gesture control and ambient light sensors. It operates as a media distribution platform with access to over 30,000 licensed artworks, targeting the connected home market.

History

Meural was founded in August 2014 by Vladimir Vukicevic and Jerry Hu in New York. The company spent its first year on R&D, developing the Canvas with features like LCD sourcing, brightness control, and gesture interfaces, incubated at the Con Artist art collective. It sold out initial inventory in late 2015 and was acquired by NETGEAR in August 2018 to expand connected home offerings.
