History

Rainer Nienaber founded Nienaber Bünde in 1982 in Bünde, Germany, starting with a small watch repair workshop. In 1984, he expanded to new premises to produce mechanical watches alongside repairs, personally handling design, development, and quality control. The first collection launched in 1995, followed by the King Size collection in 1998 featuring large cases and central date figures. Nienaber, an AHCI member, created unique models like retrograde watches, with activity noted at BaselWorld 2012. The brand and its creator have since retired.123457

Manufacturing

Products were developed and assembled in Bünde, Germany, by Rainer Nienaber, with modifications to Swiss ETA movements like the 2824-2. Cases used stainless steel or titanium, hands matched to case alloys, and components such as sapphire crystals and alligator straps were incorporated. Production was small-scale in-house at the manufactory.13

Reputation

Nienaber Bünde is regarded by enthusiasts as a niche German independent brand for its creative designs like retrograde and oversized complications from AHCI watchmaker Rainer Nienaber. Professionals note its use of modified ETA movements and small-scale production, appealing to collectors of unique, non-mainstream watches. Criticisms include limited water resistance and reliance on standard Swiss calibers without full in-house production; the brand's obscurity stems from its retirement.2345
