Overview

Octagon GmbH is a German company specializing in blown film control and gauging systems for the plastic film extrusion industry. Established in 1987, it develops thickness gauges, control software, segmented air rings, and analysis tools like FFT software for quality management.¹³

History

Octagon was founded in 1987 by Dr. Veit-Holger Karl and his wife.¹ In 1989, it began supplying thickness gauges and software for Kuhne GmbH's segmented air rings, showcased at K ’89.¹ By 1990, Octagon developed its own single-lip auto-gauge air rings; in 2004, it introduced dual-lip segmented air rings for HDPE.¹

Product Lines

Product Line	Positioning	Price Range
Thickness Gauges	Precision measurement for blown film	$5,000 - $50,000
Segmented Air Rings	Automatic profile control systems	$20,000 - $100,000
Control Software	Real-time thickness regulation	$10,000 - $30,000
FFT Analysis Software	Profile signature detection	$5,000 - $15,000

Manufacturing

Products are developed and likely manufactured in Germany, with the company based in Mittweida.¹³ Expertise involves an in-house technical team of physicists, engineers, and programmers focused on R&D.¹
