Acquired

Overview

Oneida is one of the world's largest designers and sellers of stainless steel and silverplated cutlery and tableware for both consumer and foodservice markets. The company holds leading market positions in flatware and is the largest supplier of dinnerware to the foodservice industry in North America. Oneida operates globally across the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe, and Asia, marketing a comprehensive portfolio that includes flatware, dinnerware, crystal stemware, glassware, and kitchen accessories.

History

Oneida was founded in 1848 as a utopian community that produced silverware to support its members, eventually becoming famous for quality craftsmanship. The company revolutionized the industry in 1961 by transitioning to stainless steel flatware production. Throughout the 2000s, Oneida expanded through acquisitions including Sakura Inc., Delco International Ltd., and Viners of Sheffield Ltd. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2006 and emerged as a private entity later that year. As of 2021, Oneida was acquired by Lenox Corporation.

The brand is trusted by both consumers and foodservice professionals for reliable, well-designed products. The company's transition to stainless steel in 1961 is regarded as an industry milestone. However, the company faced significant financial challenges in the mid-2000s, filing for bankruptcy before being acquired, which reflects competitive pressures in the tableware market.
