ActiveOverview
Parker Pen Company is a writing instrument manufacturer founded in 1888 that became one of the top two worldwide sellers of pens from the 1920s through the 1960s. The company is known for innovations in fountain pen technology, including the Lucky Curve feed system and quick-drying Quink ink, as well as the Parker 51 fountain pen and Parker Jotter ballpoint, which has sold over 750 million units since 1954. Today, Parker maintains a reputation for quality craftsmanship across fountain pens, ballpoints, and rollerballs, serving both enthusiasts and professional users.
History
Parker Pen Company was founded in 1888 by George Safford Parker in Janesville, Wisconsin, after he left his position as a sales agent for another pen company. The company achieved prominence through key innovations including the Lucky Curve fountain pen feed and the development of Quink quick-drying ink in 1931, followed by the iconic Parker 51 fountain pen in 1941, which generated over $400 million in sales over 30 years. Parker was acquired by Gillette in 1993 and subsequently by Newell Rubbermaid in 2000. Following patent expirations and increased competition from generic copies, the company consolidated production from its original Janesville location and Newhaven factory to Nantes, France.

Reputation
Parker has earned a reputation for quality, elegance, and innovation among pen enthusiasts and professionals, with a legacy spanning over 130 years of reliable craftsmanship. The brand is recognized for highly durable, well-designed pens with consistent performance and a wide variety of styles. However, some critics argue that certain modern Parker models, particularly entry-level offerings like the Jotter fountain pen, do not fully meet contemporary expectations for quality relative to alternatives. The brand's decision to reduce lifetime warranties to two-year limitations on high-end pens represents a departure from its traditional positioning.
