History

Portola Coffee Lab was started by Jeff Duggan, who began home roasting in 2000 while studying chemistry, and launched commercially in Irvine in 2009 with his wife Christa Duggan as co-founder. The flagship cafe opened at OC Mart Mix in 2011, quickly gaining recognition as a progressive coffee bar in Southern California. It expanded next door with THEOREM, a specialized six-seat coffee bar, and maintains roasting under Portola Coffee Roasters branding.
