The PRIM brand traces to 1949 when Chronotechna established a wristwatch production branch in Nové Město nad Metují, Czechoslovakia, producing the first Spartak watch in 1954. The plant was renamed ELTON in 1969, peaking at nearly 500,000 watches annually in the 1970s before production declined post-1989 Velvet Revolution to 20,000 by 1994 amid privatization and trademark disputes. In 2001, MPM-Quality acquired the PRIM rights, resuming full in-house mechanical movement production in 2009 at sites in Nové Město nad Metují and Frýdek-Místek.
