ProSharp

Overview

ProSharp is a Swedish brand specializing in skate sharpening and profiling equipment and services for ice hockey and figure skating. The company is known for its precision skate blade profiling systems that shape the radius and pitch of skate blades along the length of the steel to match a player’s skating style, body position, and stride. ProSharp’s technology is widely used by professional teams, national federations, and high‑level players, and its machines and profiles are integrated into many commercial sharpening operations.

In the market, ProSharp occupies a niche position as a technical supplier of profiling hardware and software rather than a consumer skate brand. Its systems are typically sold to rinks, pro shops, and team equipment staff, who then offer ProSharp profiling as a service to players. The brand is notable for pioneering multi‑radius blade profiles (such as singles, quads, and Ellipse) and for being acquired by Bauer Hockey, which has expanded its reach into Bauer’s global distribution and product ecosystem.

History

ProSharp was founded in 1991 in Sweden and began developing skate sharpening and profiling systems for ice hockey and figure skating. The company built a reputation for precision blade profiling and expanded its presence in professional and national‑team environments over the 1990s and 2000s. In 2021, Bauer Hockey announced the acquisition of ProSharp, integrating its sharpening and profiling portfolio into Bauer’s broader hockey equipment business. Since the acquisition, ProSharp has continued to operate under its own name as a Bauer‑owned brand, with its technology and profiles promoted through Bauer’s channels.

Manufacturing

ProSharp’s sharpening and profiling machines are designed and engineered in Sweden, with components manufactured and assembled in Europe. Some sub‑assemblies and parts may be sourced from external suppliers, but final calibration and quality control are handled in‑house to maintain precision standards. The company emphasizes tight tolerances and repeatable profiling results, which are critical for professional and high‑volume sharpening environments.

Notable Products

• ProSharp commercial sharpening & profiling machines - Multi‑axis profiling systems that apply custom radius and pitch profiles along the length of skate blades.
• SkatePal PRO3 NA - Compact profiling machine designed for smaller shops and mobile sharpening setups.
• Quad profile - Four‑zone blade profile that segments the blade into distinct radius zones to enhance different phases of the skating stride.
• Ellipse profile - Blended multi‑radius profile intended to provide a smooth, continuous feel across the blade.
• Superior profile - Three‑zone profile optimized for a balance of stability, agility, and edge control.

Reputation

Among enthusiasts and professionals, ProSharp is regarded as a technically advanced and reliable provider of skate profiling systems, particularly valued for its multi‑radius profiles and consistency across sharpenings. Many high‑level players and teams use ProSharp‑profiled skates, which has reinforced its reputation in elite hockey circles. Some users note that the learning curve for operators and the cost of equipment can be barriers for smaller shops, and there is occasional criticism that the benefits of complex profiles are subtle and may not be noticeable to all skaters. Overall, the brand is seen as a serious, engineering‑driven option rather than a mass‑market consumer brand.
