History

Founded in 1862 by brothers Christian and Georg Thiel as a metal factory in Ruhla, it began pocket watch production in 1892 and became a major center for affordable mass-produced wristwatches by the 1960s under VEB Uhrenwerke Ruhla. After German reunification, the state-owned entity dissolved, leading to private successors. In 2022, on the 160th anniversary, Uhrenwerke Ruhla GmbH relaunched the brand in the remaining original building, now housing assembly and a watch museum.
