Schneider

Overview

Schneider Schreibgeräte is a German manufacturer of writing instruments specializing in ballpoint pens, fountain pens, and refill cartridges. The company is recognized for pioneering ballpoint pen refill technology in Germany and maintaining high manufacturing standards. Schneider operates across more than 130 export countries and produces over 100 product models, positioning itself as a quality-focused manufacturer rather than a mass-market brand.

History

Founded in September 1938 by Christian Schneider and Erwin Blum as a factory for screws and turned parts, the company pivoted to writing instruments after discovering ballpoint pen technology post-World War II. Schneider became a pioneer of ballpoint pen refills in Germany and one of the first manufacturers worldwide, with the 'good Schneider refill' becoming synonymous with quality. The company expanded its product range in the 1990s with the K 15 series of retractable ballpoint pens and introduced Viscoglide technology in 2005 for smoother writing. Now in its third generation of family ownership, the company maintains manufacturing in Germany as a core part of its identity.
