Shadow Electronics was founded in 1971 in Erlangen, Germany, by Joe Marinic, who previously worked at Framus Guitar Company and built his own amplifiers and pickups as a teenager.27 Initially planning solid body guitars and pickups, it shifted to pickups exclusively and invented the world’s first undersaddle pickup, the Shadow 1, shortly after founding.2 Joe Marinic continues to own and operate the company today.23
