Shadow Electronics was founded in 1971 in Erlangen, Germany, by Joe Marinic, who previously worked at Framus Guitar Company and built his own amplifiers and pickups as a teenager.²⁷ Initially planning solid body guitars and pickups, it shifted to pickups exclusively and invented the world’s first undersaddle pickup, the Shadow 1, shortly after founding.² Joe Marinic continues to own and operate the company today.²³
