History

SICIS was founded in 1987 by Maurizio Leo Placuzzi in Ravenna, Italy, the historical center of Byzantine mosaic art. The company initially gained recognition through high-quality mosaic and decorative materials before expanding into furniture and interior design. In 2010, after decades of technical refinement, SICIS unveiled its first fine jewelry line at BaselWorld in collaboration with designer Roger Thomas. The jewelry division, SICIS Jewels, was formally established in 2013 under the creative direction of Maurizio's daughter Gioia Placuzzi, who became Creative Director in 2018 and has since pioneered new patents and collaborations in micromosaic jewelry.
