History

Stefano Bemer founded the company in 1987 in Florence after apprenticing under experienced shoemakers, following early work in leather goods after his father's death in 1983. The founder passed away in 2012, after which Tommaso Melani of the Scuola del Cuoio family took over, expanding production from 300 to 3000 pairs annually and introducing ready-to-wear lines in 2013. The company acquired Sartoria Vestrucci to extend into tailoring and opened a New York showroom.

Manufacturing

All shoes are made in-house in Florence, primarily at a workshop in a chapel on Via San Niccolò, with some production in a nearby church by 14 craftsmen using materials supplied from the main studio. Tailoring under Sartoria Vestrucci follows the same artisanal standards. No outsourcing to private labels.
