String Swing was founded in 1987 by Paul Thieman, who created the initial guitar hanger prototype in 1983 on his dairy farm in Elroy, Wisconsin, using spare parts. Thieman and his wife Anne Tainter began commercial production after assessing their farm finances, initially assembling in their home with family and a machinist friend. The business expanded, leading Thieman to sell the farm and relocate to Ontario, Wisconsin, to establish a machine shop.¹²
