History

TA Associates was founded in 1968 by Peter Brooke as an affiliate of Tucker, Anthony & R.L. Day investment banking firm, initially focusing on venture capital investments in earlier-stage companies. The firm became an independent partnership in 1978 and expanded geographically throughout the 1980s and 2000s, opening offices in Menlo Park (1982), London (2003), Mumbai (2009), and Hong Kong (2011). Key milestones include the first software investment in McCormack & Dodge (1980), first financial technology investment in Datek Online Holdings (1999), and reaching its 500th investment in 2018. By 2021, the firm had raised $47.5 billion in capital, and by 2024 it had grown to over 160 investment professionals led by 28 Managing Directors.
