History

Toool was founded in 2002 in Amsterdam as a successor to the first Dutch lockpicking group established in 1997. A local chapter was established in Eindhoven in 2006, with a temporary Groningen chapter operating from 2015-2017. The organization expanded internationally, with Toool US founded in 2005 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and affiliated chapters subsequently established in the UK, Belgium, Norway, and Australia. Each branch operates as a separate legal entity while maintaining connection to the original mission.

Manufacturing

Toool does not manufacture physical products. The organization operates as a nonprofit educational and sporting body, organizing conferences, competitions, and educational events rather than producing commercial goods.

Reputation

Toool is recognized as the second-oldest lockpicking sports club in the world and holds significant credibility within the lockpicking community as a legitimate educational and competitive organization. The organization is respected for its emphasis on advancing public knowledge about locks and security through teaching and research.
