History

Universal Genève was founded on January 18, 1894, by Numa Descombes and Ulysse Perret (with Ulysse-Georges Perret and Louis Berthoud) as Universal Watch in Le Locle, Switzerland, later relocating headquarters to Geneva. The company pioneered the first chronograph in 1917 and expanded facilities, including a factory in Les Ponts-de-Martel during World War II and another in Carouge near Geneva. It moved to Rue du Rhône in 1935 and was acquired by Breitling in December 2023.²³⁴
